We are delighted to announce that Utakiambi will be taking part as a musical collaborator on the Swiss tour of this Okinawa project that brings together documentary film and live performances of Ryûkyû traditional dancing and Eisa/Shishimai dancing. Discover the uniqueness and beauty of Okinawan traditional arts with us across Switzerland!

As part of our collaboration with “UMUI – Guardians of Traditions” Swiss Tour 2026, we are organising 4 days of workshops of Okinawan traditional music (sanshin) and dance (Ryûkyû buyô) in Geneva! This will be a rare chance to discover the richness of this traditional culture from “another Japan” where you can try to play the 3 strings luth “sanshin” and discover the subtle and deep world of “Ryûkyû buyô”. No specific knowledge is required to attend, just the desire to discover Okinawan traditional music and dancing! Each workshop can be followed independently (you can participate to only one of them, two, three or all of them).
WHO ARE WE?
We are musicians who are passionate about the culture and music of Southern Japanese Okinawa and the Ryukyu islands. “Utakiambi” means “to sing and have fun” in the dialect of Yonaguni island, the furthest island from mainland Japan. Our formation was born with this in mind, with the aim to share music and dances from the Okinawa area. Through our activities in Geneva, Switzerland and elsewhere, we would like to share the richness of this culture with you!
